So basically we are going to do our best at work this year, prepare George for the next chapter in his life. While making preparations for moving/relocating. It is also time for Yogita and me to build something of our own. Perhaps a small business. Maybe a set up where we work from home while focusing on content creation. Maybe team up with one of Yogita's contacts. There are so many possibilities. Teaching English in the way that I have. I have basically done it all. Well-meaning people around would beg to differ. I think that if Korea made it easier for people like me (who have raised a family) to stay in Korea, I would stay. Sadly that is not the case. I seriously think that a bunch of older men with no clue on how the policies they pass will affect Korea are calling the shots.
One man who is from a southeast Asian country was told that it might be harder for a man to get a tourist visa. This is because immigration feels that Korea is better for women to visit. As the office put it women come to Korea for cosmetics, shopping, and plastic surgery. What a load of bullshit.
Korea needs to make life easier for the thousands of highly skilled people who like me have raised families (our children could help the labor crisis that is looming here) here to stay. When those people leave...they will not be coming back. I am here because I WANT to be here. That has changed over the course of two years. Immigration becoming too much a hassle. Visa rules changing for really stupid reasons.
Korea wants to the top 2% of earners to have an easier time living here. What they really need are people like me. We work hard, pay taxes, and support the local economy. Oh, and we have kids too!
The Korean government needs to study math. They need more people who like to be here to stay.
